I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to track down my ancestors. Thank goodness for Family Treemaker software! I don't think I would've enjoyed doing this with pen & paper only. At one point, I went to a Mormon temple to utilize their micro-fiche and numerous books. My poor eyes were blood-shot and tearing by the time I left. I spent hours hunched over a micro-fiche reader, squinting perilously at the handwriting of the census taker. The minutes turned into hours as I labored, copied, squinted and deciphered the ancient handwriting. It's hard to believe that the person who wrote these notes went door to door for days, weeks and I'm sure....months.
My Great Aunt and my Great-great Aunt are both genealogy people. Where I spend hours on the computer, they're able to jump in a car and drive to all those places I'd love to go. I want to walk into a tiny town office, pick up an old musty book and flip through the pages. I want to tramp through an ancient cemetery reading the old headstones.
Well, this is all I could think of to write about for the moment. I'm sure I'll think of something tomorrow. ~Namaste
